A Letter From God

Who doesn't love a sweet letter?

The letter could be from a husband, wife, friend, coworker, or even a stranger. . . but there is something about a letter no matter who it came from that makes our heart soften.

No matter how short or long the letter is, it automatically makes our hearts smile and our souls feel the warmth.

Letters make us feel special. Known. Desired.

We may not even realize it, but the majority of the time after we read a letter we catch ourselves with a soft smile on our face.

Let's just say, I love letters.

Now, I'm not just talking about the drawn-out letters. . . even though they equally melt my heart.

But I'm also talking about medium letters. The "I ripped a page out of my journal real quick letter" or the small letters of "I grabbed a sticky note that won't even stick to anything letter".

Those letters are just as special.

While Daniel and I were dating and into marriage, we still appreciate letters. Our letters are typically short and mostly on ripped paper or grab-and-go sticky notes. The actual content of the note ranges from "Have a great day, I love you." to the other extent of "sorry for being grumpy. I love you." and then always the in-betweens.

Regardless of the content of the letters, It always makes my heart soften.

Now. . .

I may love letters, but I can confidently say that I'm not the champion letter writer (is that a word..?)

But, I do know a person that definitely knows how to write some sweet letters.

His name is Paul.

Paul was an incredible letter writer (still don't know if that is an actual word?)

Now, he didn't start out that way. . . and his testimony itself in the bible is unfathomable, a genuine picture of the Mercy and Grace God provides us every day.

But, when he became a believer his life was transformed.

One of Paul's incredible talents is writing letters. He wrote several amazing letters in the new testament giving hope, encouragement, guidance, wisdom, and truth to all regions that needed it.

At first glance, these letters may not seem inspiring since we didn't live in that era. At first glance, we don't see the value of these letters as we didn't live in Galatia or Colosse.

But if we did deeper into these letters, we see that A.D 57 is the 2022 and the more we dig into the letters we find that we need exactly what they needed. A glimpse of one of his letters is

Ephesians 1: 17-18

asking God, the glorious Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, to give you spiritual wisdom and insight so that you might grow in your knowledge of God.18 I pray that your hearts will be flooded with light so that you can understand the confident hope he has given to those he called—his holy people who are his rich and glorious inheritance.

He isn't talking only to the people in Ephesus, but he's talking to us! He saying, "listen! I know times are tough right now. I know life is rough. I see you going through trials. I see the battles you are in. . . But listen, there is more out there than your battle. There is light. I want that confidence in you. I want you to grow in spiritual wisdom and insight. I want you to grow in the knowledge of God. I want to see that light shine in you. I want you to see that he chose you. He chose his holy people, you."

Paul's letters are incredible because he's trying to inspire us. Not just to the people of Ephesus, Galatia, or Colosse. He is trying to reach us. He wants us to be filled with hope because he knew who God was and still is!

And the incredible part of the entire thing is that it's not just paul who wants to write us letters, but God wants to write us letters too.

Could you imagine if you received a letter in the mail from God?

What do you think yours would say?

What letter do you think He wants you to give to others?

This week I pray over letters to us from God. I pray we take time to pray about our letters from God. Asking Him, what would you tell me right now in my letter? What would you say about me? What would you want to see in me? What wisdom would you write in my letter? What encouragement would I need in my letter? What do I need to hear the most?

This week I pray over letters from us to others. I pray we take time to pray about our letters and what God desires us to share with others. What would you want me to write to others? What would I say about them in the letter that reflects you? What wisdom from you can I give to others? What encouragement have you shown me that I can share with others? What do they need to hear the most right now?

Let God's Word and Paul's words move in your life so that you can hear God's letter in your life. What He is calling in you and through you to do in your life. What He desires to see in your life. Let God's Word and Paul's words move in your life so that you can hear God's letter in you to transform others' lives. What he is calling in you and through you to bring others to Him.
